“I think standing up for myself is important.”
Princess Jasmine was born into her role as a princess. She was the daughter of the sultan of Agrabah. Jasmine had what every girl imagined was the perfect life. She had maids that waited on her hand and foot. She had respect and prestige, yet Jasmine possessed a confidence that was not compatible with her role as a princess.
Princess Jasmine knew the protocol of being a princess. She was to stay where she was told and she was to be protected at all times. In this case, being a princess meant submission to the rules and regulations. However, Jasmine was intrigued by what she did not know. The unknown did not scare her, but it fascinated her.
She was ready for new things and wanted to break free from what she had known her whole life. Although she was stubborn at times, she knew what she wanted. Now, that requires a lot of faith, confidence, and fearlessness to pursue the unknown like she did. She even rode on a magic carpet with not only a stranger, but a criminal! Instead of viewing the world in one dimension, Jasmine tried to view life through a variety of perspectives. A lot of times we can become so consumed in our own life circles that we forget there are other ideas, perspectives, and cultures out there. Jasmine went from the palace to the alleys where she found Aladdin – someone with a very different view of life than her. He showed her ‘a whole new world’, and she was able to appreciate the beauty of the world outside her palace. What is holding you back? Where is your boldness? Click To Tweet
Princess Jasmine didn’t want to settle and marry Jafar. She fought for her free will. Many of us have roles and titles that define us just like Jasmine did. Yet she fought to have the choice to be whom she wanted. Although her father felt like he provided everything she needed, he did not realize that he was holding her back.
Princess Jasmine was a beautiful girl in the eyes of the people, but what defined her was her fight. She fought for the right to believe what she believed. She fought for her right to be whom she wanted and explore the world.
